Ask me if I prefer sanding off wallpaper glue

Well, to be honest, I don't like it one bit. That's what I've been doing for the last 3 hours in the master bedroom of the new house we just moved into. The geniuses who put up that gorgeous textured wallpaper some 15 years ago decided to plaster it right onto the drywall. No paint, no primer. So you're pretty much ripping off layers of drywall with each strip of wallpaper removed. But the glue, oh the glue. So thick, so much sanding. I'm covered in a white film of microscopic dust from sanded wallpaper glue.

Why? What'd you do today?

  1. That is nice of the owners to allow some young hip person to come in a remodel for them. Well, sweet Natalie, I am sure your efforts will pay off when you look around the bedroom with fresh, clean, paint. Congrats on your hard work!

  2. Curses! I know only too well of the angst that comes with removing wallpaper. I've decided really the key to removing wallpaper is patience....most of the time you have to let the steam soak in or the chemicals soad in and it always feels like FOREVER! It's like watching a pot of water come to a boil. You know it doesn't really take that long, but it feels like your might die of hunger before it ever starts boiling. Same with wallpaper removal.

  3. I'm sorry that I wasn't there to help! I'm undertaking a sanding project myself. I recently purchased a hideous yellow bookshelf from the DI. Now I'm trying to turn it into something presentable.
Last time I talked to you, you were feeling a somewhat ill. I hope you're feeling better. Let me know if you need anything!

  4. I have a funny wallpaper removal story....Funny for anyone who would have seen it anyway. In our first house, (in San Antonio) I too wanted to get rid of the hideous 1970's felt-textured wallpaper in our bathroom. So, after painstaking stripping, peeling, and scrubbing, I was nearly done when I accidentally got my wet scraper too close to the uncovered light socket. Needless to say I not only got a darn good shock, I flew a few feet in the air only to slip on the wet floor and land flat on my butt. If only someone would have had a video camera....I'd be 10 grand richer for sure. :)
